About us

Euskararen Etxea, or the House of the Basque Language, is located in the San Ignazio district of Bilbao, and was founded in 2004 as the result of a collaborative effort involving the Bizkaia Provincial Council, the Bilbao City Council and the Basque Regional Government. It is currently managed by the Azkue Fundazioa.

The House of the Basque Language’s aim is to serve as a benchmark and point of reference for those working in the field of Basque language, as well as for all Basque-speakers in general. To this end, it offers a range of services and resources:

Basque Language Information Centre

This exhibition at the Basque Language Interpretation Centre provides a chance to learn about Basque from the inside, in a way that is bold, fun and imaginative but at the same time precise and scientific.

It is arranged as a fun, sensorial experience in which visitors can immerse themselves in the multi-faceted world of Basque.

Opening hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 10:00 – 19:00
  • Saturday: 10:00 – 14:00 / 16:00 – 19:00

Cooperative Workspace

Through its cooperative workspace, the House of the Basque Language aims to foster collaboration and teamwork between different groups and people, while at the same time promoting and encouraging activities carried out in the Basque language. We are working hard to have this initiative fully up and running by 2021.

In the meantime, the workspace is currently being used by the following groups and associations: Euskaltzaleen Topagunea, Ikastolen Elkartea, 111 Akademia, Euskal Kulturgileen Kidegoa and the Azkue Fundazioa.
