The Basque Interpretation Centre

The Basque Interpretation Centre

The Basque Interpretation Centre (BIC) aims to convey the vitality and diversity of the Basque language. It also calls on everyone to make a personal commitment to it, since we can all make a meaningful contribution. In short, the diverse nature of Basque unites us; it all adds up.

The exhibition offers an entertaining yet detailed look at the language based on our senses; in other words, during their experience-based, playful tour around the centre, visitors can explore the multifaceted nature of the Basque language.

The exhibition at the Basque Interpretation Centre is divided into different sections:

  • An updated database on the situation of Basque
  • A historical overview of the language
  • Playing with words in Basque
  • Audiovisual campaigns about the transmission and diversity of Basque
  • Future challenges facing the language
  • The wealth and quality of Basque culture

Moreover, since Basque is linked to positive values, the exhibition aims to be optimistic, welcoming and broad-ranging.

All contents are available in four languages: Basque, Spanish, English and French.

We also offer free guided tours. You can visit the centre individually or as a group and schools can participate in the School Programme.

Entry is free of charge and the centre has generous opening hours:

Monday to Friday: 10:00 – 19:00.

Saturdays: 10:00 – 14:00 / 16:00 – 19:00

Closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
