The Basque Interpretation Centre

School programme

In addition to an hour-long tour, school groups who come to the Basque Interpretation Centre can also participate in a workshop.

The school programme is run by a team with extensive experience working with young people and the contents are adapted to the needs and interests of each specific age group.

The new Basque Interpretation Centre offers visitors the chance of learning more about Basque from top to bottom and in a fun and imaginative yet accurate and scientific manner. The centre also aims to convey the vitality and diversity of the Basque language.

Teaching units:

  • Activate your knowledge! Activities to be carried out in the classroom prior to the visit*
  • Visit to the Interpretation Centre + Workshop

*Schools are free to decide whether or not to use this material.

Aims of the school programme:

Students have class in Basque every day. They study grammar, spelling, written comprehension, etc. But, what do they really know about our language? Are they familiar with all the specific qualities and characteristics of Basque? Are they aware of the language diversity present today in the Basque Country? The Basque Interpretation Centre is the ideal place to gain a deeper understanding of our language.

Aims:

  • To explore the Basque Interpretation Centre and demonstrate that Basque is a living language.
  • To realise just how rich the history of Basque is. Basque unites, it does not divide.
  • To offer an experience specifically adapted to students’ age and academic level.
  • To foster the use of Basque by students and encourage them to think about their language and its use.
  • To excite interest in Basque and encourage a positive attitude to it.
  • To offer a dynamic and interesting experience.
  • To work on cooperative learning.

Workshops are designed to cover four stages:
